As a part of its yearly cultural schedule, Al Wadi International Private University invited Prof. Dr. Yasser Hurieh, Member of the Country Command , the head of the Higher Education and Scientific Research Bureau, to an open meeting at the university campus, last Friday 24/11/2006, at 5.30 pm.
Dr. Hurieh was received by Dr. Sameer Saad, the University President, the Vice President Dr. Jawdat Ibraheem, the Board of Directors of Al Wadi Company for the Educational Establishments, the Chairman and the Board of Trustees, the Deans and their Deputies, some Members of the Teaching Body of Al Baath university, some representatives of the Commands of Homs and Al Baath Branches, the Sub-District command of Al Bath Party in Telkalekh , Heads of Municipalities and Villages Mayors, Schools Headmasters and an enormous crowd of people, students and the university personnel.
The meeting was started with a cordial welcoming of Dr. Hurieh and his Companions; then Engineer Naoum Jamous, the Head of the Admission and Registration Department, offered a presentation to acquaint them with the university. Dr. Hurieh talked about the current government plan in the field of developing the private and governmental high education in Syria, and the accession of the higher education quality, and the concentration on the education of the Languages and information technology, by the students visiting labs and the internet Halls, since they are very important to keep up with the scientific and intellectual developments. Dr. Hurieh also mentioned the huge numbers of students at the public universities, and touched on the question of the fees costs that exceed the costs of the investments, along with the government plan to overcome this problem.
Dr. Hurieh reviewed the political situation in general, and the most important newly arising issues in the region, especially what is going on in Palestine, Iraq and Lebanon, and our leadership attitude as regards these events.
Dr. Hurieh''s talk was followed by an open Dialogue with the attendees. He answered all the attendees'' questions and inquiries.
Dr. Sameer Saad, the university president, gave the university shield to Prof. Dr. Hurieh as a tribute of thanks and honor for his efforts in this field.
Dr. Hurieh was bid fare well with the same welcome and honor he was received with.
